My indoor/outdoor (mostly indoor, these days) cat has longish hair which occasionally has formed "dreadlocks" (clumps of matted fur, usually because a small stick or burr got caught in there) behind his ears, on his tummy, or on his behind. About a month ago he had a couple of bad ones behind his ears which we carefully cut (and worked out with fingers). However, he seems to have a bigger bald spot behind his ear than what we cut.
